I have big lips. Like Kylie Jenner without the monthly lip injections sized lips! Even my selfies on social media have to be strategically angled so that my followers don’t accuse me of doing the now infamous “girl duck lips” pose. Because for some reason, no one believes you whenever you say, “my lips are big and they just do that.” #annoying
But with this perfect pout comes a unique problem: dead lip skin shedding! Yes, I know that this sounds kind of disgusting but, it is something that I have to deal with on a daily basis. And no matter how much water I drink, my lips always seem to be in some state of dryness causing them to be either chapped or severely chapped (to the point of splitting down the middle). Mine also shed on a nightly basis, sloughing off dead skin like Nagini, the enormous and incredibly evil snake in Harry Potter!
As I’ve grown older, I’ve become more annoyed with and painfully aware of my unique “lip” problem to the point of embarrassment whenever I go out. The words “don’t pick your lips” are almost a staple phrase amongst my family and friends and my mother never seems to be able to say a word to me whenever we get together before she is quietly slipping a tiny tube of cherry flavored vaseline into my hand (she carries it in her purse just for me).
I’ve literally tried every product out there and found little relief! From the classic old school lip balms and treatments like Blistex, Vaseline and Nivea, to those oh so talked about “cult products” like Smith’s Rosebud salve that all the magazines mention and that they sell at Sephora. I think I read once that Beyonce is a huge lover and user of Smith’s Salve. Well, no offense to Queen Bey but, it did nothing at all for me.
Desperate and at my breaking point, (my lips were literally split down the middle and starting to bleed again), I decided to scour the internet for the one product that I knew could solve my problem. It had to be out there somewhere! It just had to be, right?
Victory! With the help of Beauty Guru Lisa Eldridge (who has raved about this product and done reviews on it), I discovered the holy grail of restorative lip balms, Reve de Miel by the French company, Nuxe. This unique and luxuriously thick balm coats your lips instantly, soothing and repairing them simultaneously. And when I tell you that the texture of this balm is thick, I mean it! I would NOT suggest that you use this product as a daily lip care moisturizer. It is not glossy and coats the lips entirely. I use this product at night only! It is one of my secret weapons in my trusted arsenal of staple beauty products that I will continue to use for the rest of my life.
